Deep Sea Creature Design

LI: to use our smart searching skills.

Today I designed my own deep sea creature. I started by using my previous drawings when I was little for my design. I separated my drawings body parts and made look like a mutant. Then I used shapes to make the red tentacles, the third eye and the turtle shell. After that I decided to use a AI to see if it can create my design I made by me describing its looks.

I found this activity revolting because I saw some of my classmates designs, and it was revolting to see.

Water Safety

This week I made a DLO about water safety because me and my class began to have swimming classes every thursday. We learnt that its important to learn how to swim or to wear a life jacket because someday you might get involved in a situation that requires swimming skills or life jackets equipped. Like for example: drowning, being left out, and a boat accident.. This is a picture of the DLO about water safety that I had made.

I found this activity important because learning how to swim or responsibility about putting a life jacket on is helpful for everyone.

Modern Olympics

LI:

This week me and my inquiry group learnt about the Modern Olympics. We learnt about the Olympic’s Creed, Motto, Rings, Oath and Values. We learnt about about the Modern Olympics Growth, Participation, Technology, Innovation, Challenges and Controversies. Like for example: for Growth and Participation, 14 nations joined in the first Modern Olympics in 1896 with 280 athletes, for Technology and Innovation, Technology impacted the Modern Olympics by communicating with the other countries, for example: the place where the Olympics are getting held might put the place on social media or communicating with the other countries, and for Challenges and Controversies there are many different ethical challenges faced in the Modern Olympics involving things like their cultural sport.

I found this activity challenging to do because of using my research skills.

Kahoot

LI: to test our knowledge about the Ancient Olympics at speed.

This week me and my class LS2 created our own Kahoot quiz about the Ancient Olympics. Most of the students decided to work in pairs while I just decided to work alone. The point of the Kahoot quiz is to test our knowledge about the Ancient Olympics at speed. When everyone had finished creating their own Kahoot quiz, we started to cast it up on the TV and test our knowledge by playing each and everyones quiz.

I found this activity challenging because of trying our best at speed on doing our quizzes.

Violet Walrond

LI: to make connections to myself, the text and the world.

Today this week me and my reading group read a book about a female named “Violet Walrond”. She does swimming in the Olympics for NZ’s first national team, its surprising for a small team to win medals, especially for a teenager to win medals for swimming. There was a word spreaded about her entering several Olympic Games, of her testing out a swimming style named the “crawl”. Violet Walrond had retired at the age of 18, forced by her father, known as the coach of the first NZ national team.

I found this activity incredible because of learning what had happened during the past in the Olympics including with NZ’s first national team.

Tivaevae

Today this week me and partner Kale created our own tivaevae design, (a tivaevae is a form of a artistic quilting traditionally, which represent the culture of Cook Island). Me and Kale tried make a polyn flower for our design and to add branches at the top to make it look creative for our design. We made special flower that is a cook island flag edition flower.

I found this activity interesting to learn how to make a design of our Tivaevae.

Speech Writing Language Features.

LI: To explore language features of a persuasive text.

Today this week me and my partner Kale learnt about using language features for our speech. Me and Kale’s speech is about if we should spend more time with our grandparents, these are some of the language features we used “Rhetorical question, Repitition, Emotive Language, and Exaggeration”. Our decision that we made was that we should be spending more time with our grandparents, my reasoning is because they give you “Time”, “Knowledge” and “Love”, my explanation is that they give you unlimited “time” to spend with them, they give you “knowledge” known as their priaknowledge that no one else will teach you, and they will give you unlimited “love” that you need from them, and to spend your time wisely with them, you can maybe show them some love too.

I found this activity significant because I know how it feels losing your grandparents.

Our First Olympians

LI: To make connections to (self, text, world).

LI: To make inferences about the event in the text using clues provided by the author.

LI: To practice skimming and scanning by looking for keywords in the text

Today this week we read about New Zealand’s first national Olympics team. Before me and my group read this text, we commented on this text, of what we think this text would be about, my infer is that it would be about NZ’s first team. When they had their first NZ team, the colour of their photos were black and white, they only had 4 athletes in their team, and there were silver ferns on their athletic clothes (silver ferns represents NZ).  We learnt of how to back up our comments with evidence, why its important to back up your comment, and how to get clues about the text from the pictures without reading. we also learnt that its important to back up your comment because it supports our predictions, the keyword to it is “because”.

I found this activity interesting because its quite fun to read about the past.

Fun Fact: There was only one female in the NZ’s first team, her father was the coach.

2 Words & 2 Minutes.

LI: To practice our physical writing.

Today this week me and my class LS2 attempted a fun activity called “2 Words and 2 Minutes”. The point this activity was to practice our writing, the rules were 1. Don’t stress just guess, 2. Write as fast as “YOU” can, and 3rd rule was to make sure that your writing must make sense. My friend Riley started a 2 minute timer for us to write about 2 noun words. The special theme of this activity was the Ancient Olympics, so our 2 noun words was “Greece” and “athletes”. The best part was to see how many words everyone got, for me I got 43 words the 1st time, but my improvement was getting 48 words, what I thought about it was that every little improvement I make is worth making.

I found this activity fun and brilliant because its interesting racing people in school writing.

Fun Fact: In 776  BC Greece mens and women’s had their own gods to honour, women’s honoured Hera (Zeus’s wife), and mens honoured Zeus (father of all God’s).

Ancient Greek Olympic Research Challenge

LI: To use our smart searching skills to help us explore the Ancient Olympic Games.

LI: To work collaboratively in groups as an active participant and contributer.

This week me and my inquiry group accepted a challenge from our teacher. The challenge was to work as a team to explore and research as many information there is we can find about the Ancient Olympic Games. (the Ancient Olympic Games were only for men because back in 776 BC women’s weren’t important, same thing with their school in 776 BC, womens were only allowed to cook and clean while the men athletes compete in the Ancient Olympic Games, held every 4 years from Zeus, father of all Gods. Women’s also had their own god to honour, Hera, Zeus’s wife, She also had her own games, which allowed running, clothing unlike Zeus’s games, making choice about the distance of the races) Me and my group also made a presentation about the Ancient Olympics Games to present infront of our class.

I found this challenge interesting because I have learnt about a sport I didn’t know to exist.

Fun Fact: Hera (Zeus’s wife) is Zeus’s sister.
