The Story of Mary Anning

LI: to tell Mary Anning’s story of our choice.

For today’s Inquiry learning activity, our class learnt about paleontology. We already learnt about paleontology but our next task we were given was to research about this paleontologist named “Mary Anning”. The point of our task was to tell her story of our choice. She eventually had a story, since there is actually a person named Mary Anning, [I thought it was a fiction character because we were shown a fiction picture of Mary Anning]. Above here is a picture of my group’s DLO.

I found this activity was interesting because of learning about a famous paleontologist.

Paleontology DLO

LI: to create a DLO that shows clearly labelled examples of each fossil type.

For today’s Inquiry learning activity we created DLO’s about Paleontology. The other day we learnt about the purpose and who exactly are paleontologists, by researching the information. Now that we know all about them our task was to create DLO’s about type of fossils. My 2 fossils that I chose to analyze and research about is the Triceratops, and the Tyrannosaurus rex, which first I used my smart searching skills to search for the images, attached with attributions [source of each image], and also along with plenty of information about each of their habitats, appearances, label/name, and many other things about them. Above here is a picture of my Paleontology DLO.

I found this activity very interesting because of learning about fossils and its species.

Decimal Numbers & Division DLO

LI: to divide decimal numbers, using short division.

For today’s Maths learning activity, me and my group learnt how to use short division against decimal numbers. [If you don’t know, Decimal Numbers: They are digits that are parts of a whole number, and Division: It is a method of using multiplication in another way. When me and my group finished on doing and marking our work, we decided to make a DLO about what we have learnt today. Above here is a picture of the DLO me and my group created.

I found this activity very interesting for learning a new skill, especially in Maths.

Maths Group 3

LI: to multiply decimal numbers, using algorithms

For today’s Maths activity me and group 3 continued learning how to use algorithms against decimal numbers. For this week we did some multiplication again decimal numbers along with some whole numbers, and that this time the method was pretty interesting and easy to handle, learn and to use. What we learnt was that the local method was a remove decimal, multiply and add the decimal in the answer. Above here is a picture of the Math DLO that me and my group created, [the paragraph in the middle is the multiplication paragraph]. We gathered all our knowledge of math’s and what we have learnt, into the DLO.

I found very interesting because of learning a new skill, which is to use multiplication against decimal numbers.

Maths Grp 3

LI: to subtract decimal numbers, using algorithms.

For today’s maths activity me and group 3 learnt how to subtract decimal numbers. decimal numbers are basically parts of a whole number like for eg: 6.3. the dot is the local symbol that represents the decimal numbers. The activity was to use subtraction against decimal numbers including whole numbers with the equations. After when we completed the activity, we decided to make a DLO about using algorithms with decimals numbers, by that we are still going to be using subtraction and many other mathematics with decimal numbers like addition, multiplication and division,

I found this activity very interesting because of learning a new skill.

Paleontology

LI: to understand how scientists know so much about dinosaurs.

LI: to recognise different types of fossils and how they are formed.

For today’s Inquiry learning activity, we learnt about paleontologists. A paleontologist is a person that studys fossils. The purpose is that they search and follow the little bits of the fossil’s trace, and when they find fossils, they collect it, study it, and also to anaylze what type of fossil. The activity was to get into a group of 4, figure out about paleontologists, and make a 50 word statement, (my group included a image with its attribution just in case). Above is a picture of me and my group’s 50 word statement and our image with it’s attribution.
