Procedural Text

LI: to create a procedural text to tell someone how to do something using a sequence of steps, instructions or actions in a particular order.

For today’s writing learning activity, our class learnt how to create procedural texts, which are capable of completing a given task with the instructions that we wrote. The point of this challenge was to create specific instructions in order to make a dinosaur fossil made out of paper, the materials needed were paper, gluestick, tape and scissors . Me and my group used the instructions we made to make a pterodactyl fossil. After that, we listed the instructions off of a paper on to a DLO, and transcribed it, using a AI in order to add more detail to the instructions that were on the DLO. Above there is the list of instructions that me and my group have made.

I found this activity very interesting and fun to attend because I learnt how to create instructions with detail. I found this activity very entertaining due to the contents of history that this task has held.

Group 2 Tongan Language Week – Word Problems

LI: To create word problems of our own, [Tongan Language Week Edition].

For today’s Maths learning activity, Group 2 decided to create word problems of our own, [Tongan Edition], the purpose was because it is Tongan Language Week this week and that we wanted to celebrate the week by creating word problems in a Tongan Edition. We each made at least 2 or more word problems in order to attend the challenge. The point of the challenge was to basically create word problems that include any Tongan traditions, or anything that has to do with Tonga. After that we decided to pretty much, decorate the word problems. Happy Tongan Language Week!

I found this activity very thoughtful and fun because of how I love doing Maths, and that I am also a Tongan Polynesian.

Museum DLO

LI: To create a DLO of what knowledge we have learnt from the trip to the Auckland Museum

For today’s Inquiry learning activity, our class learnt a large amount of knowledge from exploring 3 cases from the past, by paying a visit and exploring in the museum. The 3 cases we learnt from is the ANZAC Soldiers/World War 2, Volcanoes and Dinosaurs. What I learnt from the ANZAC section is that in 4 battles the ANZAC Soldiers had used this specific weapon named the “25 pounder field gun”. What I have learnt from the volcanoes section, is 6 specific types of rocks that can be created by volcanic eruptions, which could also help us by using that material for construction sites. Lastly, what I have learnt from the dinosaur/fossils section is that I learnt many things about the popular dinosaurs, but what I was surprised from the dinosaur/fossils section is that I learnt that the Ornithopods generations took place in the late 144 million years ago. After when our class came back from the museum trip, we decided to create DLO’s for the activity in order to blog it. Above here is a picture of my DLO.

I found this activity very historically interesting and fun because of learning many things from the past, and that I wish could explore more in the museum.

Maths Number Knowledge Group 2

LI: To subtract fractions

For today’s Maths learning activity, Group 2 learnt how to subtract fractions. We first explored and were guided by watching a video created by Maths with Mr. J. When we gathered our understanding and our experience of subtracting fractions, we started on attempting worksheets that include subtracting fractions. Group 2 did pretty great on subtracting fractions when we first attempted on the equations, and that we finished of by making a DLO about our Maths learning, which is all about subtracting fractions. Above here is a picture of the DLO that our Group has created.

I found this activity very challenging and brilliant because of learning about using other maths ways in order to calculate the answer.

Trip to Auckland War Memorial Museum

Today’s inquiry learning activity took place at a trip to the Auckland Museum. The reason was because we were learning about making wise choices when a volcanic eruption happens. The main point of the challenge was that, me and my group had 30 seconds to pack everything that we would need in order to survive a volcanic eruption. The items that were there to pack were, toys, can of food, hole punch, torch, can opener,  pan, gloves, cat, muesli bar, cat food, goggles, bottle of water, tea towel, first aid kit, mask and colouring book. The goal was to evacute safely along with the items we need, and to survive the volcanic eruption in 30 seconds.

I found this activity pretty challenging and interesting because when me and my group attended this challenge, we practically packed every single item that was there.

Once a Panther

LI: to identify the key historical context and events related to the Polynesian Panthers and the Dawn Raids as depicted in the graphic novel.

For today’s reading learning activity, we learnt about another connection between the present and the past about the polynesian panthers. Me and my reading group had read a fiction book about the polynesian panthers named “Once a Panther”, the information we learnt is, in 2019 there was a elder that had told the story of the Dawn Raids between the Palagi and the Polynesian Panthers, to his grandchildren. We didn’t learn that much from the text because the priaknowledge that we have learnt from the 2 previous texts connected the history of the Polynesian Panthers, pretty much covers the entire text of “Once a Panther”, but what we found shocking is that there were fictional stories based on the Dawn Raids, along with specific people involved in the Dawn Raids.

I found this activity very interesting because of learning about shameful fights caused by the new zealanders, against the polynesian panthers.

AI Movie [Dinosaur Knowledge & Paired Research]

LI: To use our knowledge about dinosaurs in creative ways.

For today’s inquiry learning activity, our class was given instructions for 2 challenges to create and show our knowledge that we have learnt about dinosaurs. Me and my group of classmates decided to group up, in order to attend these 2 challenges. First we used a AI to generate images, information, and research about pterodactyls for the challenge, we decided to use pterodactyls as our chosen dinosaur because in the previous activity, we opened a dinosaur egg, then discovered and researched about the dinosaur we found, which was a pterodactyl. Then we came up with a brilliant idea, by using the AI to generate a storybook along with a voice over in order to create a type of movie/storybook. After that, me and my group starting on making a presentation along with adding a link connected to the voiced over storybook. My backup plan if my storybook idea doesn’t work, is that I can just add a generated AI Movie which is sadly 6 seconds long.

I found these challenges challenging and interesting because of putting our knowledge to the test by putting our knowledge in fun and creative ways.

Dinosaur eggs

LI: To understand how scientists discover, record and learn from fossils.

For today’s Inquiry learning activity, we were given instructions for a challenge. The challenge was to become paleontologists, who had discovered a mysterious trace of dinosaur bones, skulls and most likely eggs. The main point of the challenge was to use my imagination by using Adobe Express to re-make a picture of the dinosaur egg I have broke open, to transform the background of the image into a more realistic image, for eg: My image that I have created looks like the image was taken in the 90’s or 80’s. Me and my group of classmates found a skeleton of a mysterious dinosaur, but we got a shocking surprise that we had to swap with a skeleton of a pterodactyl. 1 fact that we learnt is that, the pterodactyl may look toothless but in it’s olden days, the pterodactyls had about 90 teeth.

I found this activity interesting for researching about a specific extincted animal.

The Full Story of The Polynesian Panthers

LI: to activate prior knowledge related to migration, injustice, and historical events in NZ

For todays Reading learning activity, me and my group learnt how to gather information from images by infering what might be happening. The 2 text that we read, was called the “The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesians Panthers”, and also “Shameful stain on NZ history” [Part 2 of the story]. We learnt about how police officers brutally busted into random housings, demanding for peoples passports, and how the police criticizes the polynesians more than any of the other communities, accusing, torturing, and deporting them out of NZ back to their homes all because of overstaying. According to the history of NZ, in the past, the “government” had caused generational-trauma. After we read about the text, we started our work on questioning, predicting, inferring, researching, and commenting all about the text on the google doc we were sent, and to also begin some tasks about the text.

I found this activity very interesting and enduring to read because of seeing people go through generational-trauma, which is unbelievable, not knowing how it would feel to be in the islanders shoes.

The Story of Mary Anning

LI: to tell Mary Anning’s story of our choice.

For today’s Inquiry learning activity, our class learnt about paleontology. We already learnt about paleontology but our next task we were given was to research about this paleontologist named “Mary Anning”. The point of our task was to tell her story of our choice. She eventually had a story, since there is actually a person named Mary Anning, [I thought it was a fiction character because we were shown a fiction picture of Mary Anning]. Above here is a picture of my group’s DLO.

I found this activity was interesting because of learning about a famous paleontologist.
