Volcano Animation

LI: to make a animation of how volcanoes erupt on Earth.

For today’s Inquiry activity, our class learnt about volcanoes, we decided to gather each other into groups of 3, I was with my classmates: CJ & Junior. The main point of the activity that we applied to do as a mission to accomplish, was that our goal was to make a animation of how volcanoes erupt of Earth, (the reason why I said Earth is because other planets also have volcanoes, for eg: Mars has the largest volcanoes existed, but Mars does not have laws of physics and living like Earth, the activity is about the volcanoes that are alive with us in the present). Above here is me and my group’s animation of how volcanoes erupt. (Quick Fact: The reason of most volcanoes erupting is because of 2 plates called, Oceania plate and continental plate, which when they engage, it started to trigger the magma chamber inside the volcano, which eventually erupts).

I enjoyed making a animation on how volcanoes erupt, with my classmates because of learning that there is a possibility of the Earth’s tectonic plates shattering, (tectonic plates are like the Earth’s skin, if it shatters, it could possibly cause a earthquake or a volcanic eruption).

Volcano Poster

LI: to know what types and forms of volcanoes.

For today’s Inquiry task, me and my group: CJ & River, used Canva to make a poster about 4 types of volcanoes, Shield, Caldera, Cone & Dome. The history of these volcanoes have been going on ever since the Meiji Volcano was found, (according to my research the Meiji Volcano is 85 million years old).

Dome: Dome Volcanoes can be created by lava which comes from previous volcanic eruptions, especially in the middle of the open ocean. They can be found around the Pacific ocean, or even on land, which leads to either a mystery or a story.

Shield: Shield Volcanoes are types of protective mountains with powerful surface, like shields, just lying on the crust of the Earth.

Caldera: Caldera Volcanoes are tempered mountains, that are just land mountain according to how much volcanic eruptions happen, (the chance of how normally volcanoes erupt often, is 75%, because of the ring of fire).

Cone: Cone Volcanoes are just small sized mountains with normal exploding temper.

I enjoyed this week’s activity because of learning info about volcanoes forms.

Time Traveler’s Podcast

LI: to generate questions that will help us reflect on the past.

For our inquiry learning, we learnt how to reflect on the past by roleplaying. The instructions that we were given was to get into groups of 5, in order to roleplay for this activity. Me and my group decided to roleplay as time travelers, bringing back someone from the past, my group decided to choose a famous britian missionary that had fame for being the first missionary to spread christianity in NZ: Reverend Samuel Marsden. Above here is a picture of me and my group working on our scripts and above the picture is the recording of ourselves roleplaying.

I found this activity historically interesting because of bringing both my positive attitude and my confidence up at the next level, and that my role was actually to try and use expression to be Samuel Marsden.

Semi’s Vision Board 2025

LI: to introduce our goals by creating a vision board.

For our inquiry learning, our class learnt how to create vision boards, (a vision board is a board that shows the goals you would achieve and the things you like to do). As you see here this is my vision board for 2025. This is basically my inter mediate plan for high school next year. Above here is a picture of my vision board that I created for 2025.

I found this activity very interesting because my main goal for next year is to make sure that my plan is leading on the right track.

What Samuel Marsden Saw?

LI: to use descriptive language to create a image of what Samuel Marsden would have saw at NZ.

For our inquiry learning we decided to use to predict what Samuel Marsden saw at NZ by using Adobe AI. I decided to partner up with a fellow friend of mine, Donyal. We took a picture of Mount Wellington and then used Adobe AI to generate and remove a couple of things from the image to make it look like 1820’s. Basically our purpose of this learning was to use our prediction of what Samuel Marsden would have saw at NZ when he came for a visit during the 1820’s. Above here is a picture of our image that we created with Adobe AI.

I enjoyed this activity because of using Adobe AI to generate images by using my creativity and my priaknowledge about Samuel Marsden’s journey.

Who is Samuel Marsden

LI: to use our research skills to find out who exactly was Samuel Marsden.

For our inquiry learning, we learnt about a NZ missionary named Samuel Marsden. Our purpose of learning was basically to research of who this man was. We started by using our research skills to research Samuel Marsden’s birth, parents, popularity, education, info, jobs, death and also fun facts about him. The 2 fun facts the I chose was that he was the first ever missionary in NZ and he preached the first sermon in 1814.

I found this activity historically fun because of research about historical info about things in the past, especially about famous people. Fun fact: this man was famous for NZ’s first Christian mission.

Camp Collage

LI: to create a collage filled with images or a short movie that reflect my class’s time at camp

For our inquiry activity, our class had returned from “Kokako Lodge Camp” for under a week, and that our class decided to create collages about spending their time at “Kokako Lodge Camp”. Collages are basically posters filled with photos representing what the fuss is all about, it can also possibly be a short movie. Our class was given instructions to use the camp photos in our drive. Above here is a picture of my collage.

I found this activity very interesting of my class trying out new things, taking risks, their lives at stake, always with a positive attitude and confidence along with them, especially them being absent for 4 days and 3 nights.

A Moment In Time

LI: to write a poem about a moment in time.

For our inquiry learning our class created DLO’s about their road trip to going camp at Kokako Lodge Camp at Papakura in Auckland, NZ. The instructions that we were given was to pair up with somebody to work with, (my partner was Darius), including the non-camp people (people that didn’t go to camp). The main purpose of creating this camp DLO was to describe about your senses during a chosen activity, which was “The Great Pancake Race”. Our DLO was named “A Moment In Time”. The fun part about our learning was that we had instructions, to create a provocation (a speech that includes key words in order to hook up the reader) or a poem by using wordhippo.

I found this activity really joyful, because of learning about new words and the meaning of them, and that I like using my writing skills for activities that especially includes poems and provocations.

The Kokako Bird

LI: to use our researching skills.

For our inquiry learning, we learnt about an NZ bird named the “Kokako Bird”, which is also named after a campsite, that our class had went to for week 5. The instructions that we were given was to make a DLO with a picture of the “Kokako Bird” (attributed image), 3 paragraphs of information, including their “Diet, Habitat & Appearances” with (attributed links to the websites i’ve used), and with it’s scientific name. I also decided to add 2 fun facts about the “Kokako Bird”. Above here is a picture of the DLO that I created.

I found this activity very interesting, because of learning that the “Kokako Bird” is actually a endangered bird.

The Evolution Of The NZ Flag

LI: to understand the story behind our flag

For our inquiry learning, our class learnt about the story behind the NZ flag. I decided to pair up with my classmate “Mele” to work with. We first learnt about the flag of the United Tribes of NZ by using our research skills, which was created by “Henry Williams”. Later on came the original design of the NZ flag from “Sir Albert Hasting Markhams”. This story also had to do with the Maori Flag, what the Maori Flag represented, is that each colour on the Maori Flag represents each different meaning in Te Reo Maori.

I found this activity historically interesting because of learning about designers back in the 80’s in Aotearoa.
