Group 2 Tongan Language Week – Word Problems

LI: To create word problems of our own, [Tongan Language Week Edition].

For today’s Maths learning activity, Group 2 decided to create word problems of our own, [Tongan Edition], the purpose was because it is Tongan Language Week this week and that we wanted to celebrate the week by creating word problems in a Tongan Edition. We each made at least 2 or more word problems in order to attend the challenge. The point of the challenge was to basically create word problems that include any Tongan traditions, or anything that has to do with Tonga. After that we decided to pretty much, decorate the word problems. Happy Tongan Language Week!

I found this activity very thoughtful and fun because of how I love doing Maths, and that I am also a Tongan Polynesian.

Maths Number Knowledge Group 2

LI: To subtract fractions

For today’s Maths learning activity, Group 2 learnt how to subtract fractions. We first explored and were guided by watching a video created by Maths with Mr. J. When we gathered our understanding and our experience of subtracting fractions, we started on attempting worksheets that include subtracting fractions. Group 2 did pretty great on subtracting fractions when we first attempted on the equations, and that we finished of by making a DLO about our Maths learning, which is all about subtracting fractions. Above here is a picture of the DLO that our Group has created.

I found this activity very challenging and brilliant because of learning about using other maths ways in order to calculate the answer.

Decimal Numbers & Division DLO

LI: to divide decimal numbers, using short division.

For today’s Maths learning activity, me and my group learnt how to use short division against decimal numbers. [If you don’t know, Decimal Numbers: They are digits that are parts of a whole number, and Division: It is a method of using multiplication in another way. When me and my group finished on doing and marking our work, we decided to make a DLO about what we have learnt today. Above here is a picture of the DLO me and my group created.

I found this activity very interesting for learning a new skill, especially in Maths.

Maths Group 3

LI: to multiply decimal numbers, using algorithms

For today’s Maths activity me and group 3 continued learning how to use algorithms against decimal numbers. For this week we did some multiplication again decimal numbers along with some whole numbers, and that this time the method was pretty interesting and easy to handle, learn and to use. What we learnt was that the local method was a remove decimal, multiply and add the decimal in the answer. Above here is a picture of the Math DLO that me and my group created, [the paragraph in the middle is the multiplication paragraph]. We gathered all our knowledge of math’s and what we have learnt, into the DLO.

I found very interesting because of learning a new skill, which is to use multiplication against decimal numbers.

Maths Grp 3

LI: to subtract decimal numbers, using algorithms.

For today’s maths activity me and group 3 learnt how to subtract decimal numbers. decimal numbers are basically parts of a whole number like for eg: 6.3. the dot is the local symbol that represents the decimal numbers. The activity was to use subtraction against decimal numbers including whole numbers with the equations. After when we completed the activity, we decided to make a DLO about using algorithms with decimals numbers, by that we are still going to be using subtraction and many other mathematics with decimal numbers like addition, multiplication and division,

I found this activity very interesting because of learning a new skill.

Maths / Place Values up to Millions & 2 Decimal Places

LI: to name place and total values up to millions & 2 decimals places.

For todays Maths me and my maths group worked on how to round up to numbers in places values of millions and also up to 2 decimal places. As you see here above, this a picture of me and my group’s DLO of what we have been doing for maths, along with examples of our working. What we have learnt from the mistakes that we first made, we learnt that rounding both decimals and whole numbers does not make a difference, it just means the same thing in a different explanation, according to our mistakes of learning.

I have enjoyed this activity because learning from mistakes could help me build on to move on to the next step.

Long Division

LI: to calculate quotients of whole numbers, using long division.

This week our group learnt how to use long division against simple division problems. Basically long division is a dividing method which requires to divide large numbers into small numbers. The key for the method to work is that the secret is that we use divide, multiply, subtract, bring down and repeat in the specific order that I have spoken. Long division is like comparing reality with Maths.

Subtraction Algorithm

LI: to understand how to use subtraction algorithm.

This week I learnt about how to use subtraction algorithm, algorithm is basically a method used in maths for adding, taking, and multiplying massive digits. To do subtraction algorithm, you need to understand of doing subtraction with zeros, for example there is a picture of my subtraction algorithm DLO.

I enjoyed this activity because this activity helped me improved my subtraction.

Addition Algorithm

LI: to learn how to do addition with higher values like millions.

This week I learnt how to do addition algorithm, algorithm is a method used in maths for adding up, taking away, and multiplying massive numbers, which it could probably get in handy, to be able to use any type of algorithm, you would need to memorize your times table off by hard. for example: above here is a picture of my DLO of how to do addition algorithm.

I enjoy this activity because I learnt that algorithms can help out a lot.

Rounding up numbers

Today my activity was to learn about something that is similar than place value, rounding up numbers, for me, me and my group had to round numbers up to the millions and two decimal places, i got free tips like “we round numbers to a specific place value. which means that every digit after that place becomes a zero.
