Idioms

LI: To identify idioms and understand their figurative meanings.

For today’s Writing learning activity, our class learnt about Idioms. Idioms are phrases with special meaning oddly compared to the literal meaning of it, For eg: “A piece of cake: easy task to complete” or “it’s raining cats and dogs outside: it’s raining really hard outside”. We got into pairs for this task in order to complete our task. After that, we created our own idiom along with a idiom linked to time. We finally completed the task by recording a explanation for our presentation.

I found this activity very interesting and fun to attend, because of learning about something similar to sarcasim, false alarms, mockery and joking around.

Procedural Text

LI: to create a procedural text to tell someone how to do something using a sequence of steps, instructions or actions in a particular order.

For today’s writing learning activity, our class learnt how to create procedural texts, which are capable of completing a given task with the instructions that we wrote. The point of this challenge was to create specific instructions in order to make a dinosaur fossil made out of paper, the materials needed were paper, gluestick, tape and scissors . Me and my group used the instructions we made to make a pterodactyl fossil. After that, we listed the instructions off of a paper on to a DLO, and transcribed it, using a AI in order to add more detail to the instructions that were on the DLO. Above there is the list of instructions that me and my group have made.

I found this activity very interesting and fun to attend because I learnt how to create instructions with detail. I found this activity very entertaining due to the contents of history that this task has held.

Why Maungarei Sleeps

LI: to write a pourquoi story that follows the structure and paints a picture inside the reader’s mind.

History of Maungarei | 1400 AD

Thursday 29th May 1960

It is told that long ago there was a mighty warrior on guard in absolute berserk mood, as his name flows around Tamaki Makaurau, Maungarei, the heated mountain with fiery temper. Legend says that in the previous generations the land was empty but full with creatures, living plants and humans, as it was Maungarei’s honour and duty to provide and defend them from any harm that comes their way. As enemies started underestimating, this temper that Maungarei welds, perfects this respected warrior. Battles go on and on as if the humans were stuck in a loop, they have been blessed by the one and only guardian that they show most gratitude to is Maungarei. One day went by that changed everything, everyone’s curiosity had kept them thinking of why, why suddenly has Maungerei temper gone solid cold, his confidence have went far out of existence like it was in thin air, including the berserking roars go echoing by in thin air, slowly passing away.

“Fellas, Where are you going, you know I don’t like being left behind?” Maungarei had questioned

“Apologies our friend, but we have no choice, your temper of berserking heat has gone too far to keep us out of danger, but even worse, possibly putting us in trouble, may we meet again one day!” a crowd of villagers answered

“Please, anything but that, we can talk about this, right?” Maungarei complained

“Don’t worry buddy, as long as you exchange that temper into good use, like sleeping or avoiding addiction of exploding” Someone replied

“That is the agreement, between you and us that you can’t forget or break” Someone had added

“I will try my best to obey our agreement, my fellow friends!” Maungarei happily yelled out

Sunday 20th April 1972

After a day or two, the humans had finally solved the mystery that kept them concerned. Maungarei has not abandoned his duty including the everyone else, Maungarei has decided to rest, as he was exhausted from the battles that he attended, no matter the cost, him showing commitment, but it was time that the land would recover, the strength and energy of Maungarei still lives on as it flows from the body to the land.

Past the generations of when the legend of Maungarei still lived, Tamaki Makaurau began to exchange into an extremely beautiful & incredible future, along with where Maungarei still stands, happily watching over the ones he had defended.

Mysteries like this are one of a kind but have had plenty of room for it to happen a couple of times, going from centuries into decades. Connections are types of strength too, that can go around from anywhere to anywhere, for example: Tongariro, Mt.Taranaki & Ruapehu. According to the research, it could be possible for them to erupt again once every 2 or 3 generations at least.

Our activity for today’s writing was to create a pourquoi story about why Maungarei has been sleeping. (a pourqoui story is a type of story that has details for the reader to constructe and build a image of what would happen in the story, depending what the story is really about). After our mission of writing our pourquoi stories, we decided to use our smart skills and use AI to generate a picture of Maungarei, using our opinions of how it would look if the maunga warrior was still awake, as you see here this is my picture I generated, right below:

Time Traveler’s Podcast

LI: to generate questions that will help us reflect on the past.

For our inquiry learning, we learnt how to reflect on the past by roleplaying. The instructions that we were given was to get into groups of 5, in order to roleplay for this activity. Me and my group decided to roleplay as time travelers, bringing back someone from the past, my group decided to choose a famous britian missionary that had fame for being the first missionary to spread christianity in NZ: Reverend Samuel Marsden. Above here is a picture of me and my group working on our scripts and above the picture is the recording of ourselves roleplaying.

I found this activity historically interesting because of bringing both my positive attitude and my confidence up at the next level, and that my role was actually to try and use expression to be Samuel Marsden.

Ancestor Poem

LI: to write a poem to describe your ancestors and the legacy they left behind.

LI: to use the literary devices of alliteration, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, hyperbole and rhyme.

For our writing learning, our class learnt how to write poems about their ancestors using several different languages including: metaphor, rhyme, simile, hyperbole, alliteration and onomatopoeia. The instructions we were given to do this poem activity was to gather some past photos of ourselves, use some images from searching, use digital portrait, and to use some personal information about ourselves, including using wordhippo. Above here is a picture of my ancestor poem.

I found this activity very emotional and interesting because this activity brings back flashbacks of when I was a junior, but at the same time I was interested and that my curiousity kept me thinking more about my ancestors past and how it was like when my ancestors were here.

AI Alley Image

LI: to identify and understand how descriptive language is used to create a clear picture of a setting in a text.

For our writing learning our class learned how to use AI on Adobe Express to create a picture. We started by using a example, which was an alley. Then when we started to use the AI we decided to make our own alley. As you see here above, I used the Adobe AI to create my alley with pollution, pillars and storming clouds.

I found this activity exciting because of how we can use the AI’s techknowledgy to create anything that you can imagine, just by describing your thoughts.

My Pepeha

LI: Introducing myself.

Today this week our class made their own pepeha’s, (Pepehas are known as family tree that is all about you and your information). Our pepeha’s explain of who are ancestors were and when did they arrive at NZ, including a intro about myself. The main purpose of this activity is to introduce ourselves to our new LS2 class.

I found this activity very interesting, for learning about when my ancestors arrived at NZ.

Speeches 2024

LI: to hook up audience with a persuasive speech.

This week our class was working on speeches to take part of a speech competition, in front of our school. We decided to make a copy of a template to get started on making a speech, by using the 5 important body parts of a speech, introduction, body paragraph 1, body paragraph 2, counterargument, and conclusion. The way we want our speeches to be like, is like a speech with meaningful expression, pause, eye contact, known from your heart, and true information. Next when we filled up the template with our writing skills to make a speech, we started to make cue cards. We started to make cue cards by making 2×3 tables on a Google doc to print it out, so when it gets printed, we will cut it out, looking like cards to, the fact that we made cue cards, is to speak our speech even if we haven’t memorised it or not. After we did that we used a web named Adobe Express, we used it to erase the noise from the background while recording. After that we got into groups of 4’s and 5’s to test the cue cards out when it was printed, we tested it just by using highlights, the red highlight means to use expression and the green highlight means to pause for a breath. When we finished telling our speeches, we voted for 1 person in each group to be in the finals, which our lucky talented competitors that were voted, was Aliyan, Melle, Lisea, Siniva, Louis, and Dalilah. When we finished listening to their fabulous speeches, we took a break to save our work for next week.

I found this activity challenging because it took me a while to learn my speech, even though I didn’t get voted to be in the finals, I’m still proud.

Speech Writing Language Features.

LI: To explore language features of a persuasive text.

Today this week me and my partner Kale learnt about using language features for our speech. Me and Kale’s speech is about if we should spend more time with our grandparents, these are some of the language features we used “Rhetorical question, Repitition, Emotive Language, and Exaggeration”. Our decision that we made was that we should be spending more time with our grandparents, my reasoning is because they give you “Time”, “Knowledge” and “Love”, my explanation is that they give you unlimited “time” to spend with them, they give you “knowledge” known as their priaknowledge that no one else will teach you, and they will give you unlimited “love” that you need from them, and to spend your time wisely with them, you can maybe show them some love too.

I found this activity significant because I know how it feels losing your grandparents.

2 Words & 2 Minutes.

LI: To practice our physical writing.

Today this week me and my class LS2 attempted a fun activity called “2 Words and 2 Minutes”. The point this activity was to practice our writing, the rules were 1. Don’t stress just guess, 2. Write as fast as “YOU” can, and 3rd rule was to make sure that your writing must make sense. My friend Riley started a 2 minute timer for us to write about 2 noun words. The special theme of this activity was the Ancient Olympics, so our 2 noun words was “Greece” and “athletes”. The best part was to see how many words everyone got, for me I got 43 words the 1st time, but my improvement was getting 48 words, what I thought about it was that every little improvement I make is worth making.

I found this activity fun and brilliant because its interesting racing people in school writing.

Fun Fact: In 776  BC Greece mens and women’s had their own gods to honour, women’s honoured Hera (Zeus’s wife), and mens honoured Zeus (father of all God’s).
